"Vorwarts!"The Battle of Ligny was the second scenario in our club's linked 1815 campaign series. This was a rather large 6-player game on a 6'x8' tabletop with over 2,000 painted miniatures. The Ligny scenario is actually quite brief--just 12 turns--but plenty of carnage was destined to unfold on the afternoon of June 16. Could "Marshal Vorwarts" hold the line? |

Ligny Outcome
Our Battle of Ligny ends on a very different note from the historical action. In the real battle, the Prussian line cracks at dusk, streaming away from the field in disarray, which leads Napoleon to falsely conclude Blucher's army is a broken mess. But in our version of the battle, the Prussians have only suffered a minor tactical defeat and will be able to disengage in good order.
Losses are severe for both sides--the French suffer over 13,000 casualties and lose 36 guns. The Prussians fare even worse, losing over 20,000 troops and 120 pieces of artillery. The Prussians do end the day in control of the main geographic objectives, including Ligny proper and their lines of retreat. Next up...the Battle of Wavre!
