"Grouchy? Where is Grouchy?"

The Battle of Wavre was scenario #3 of four in our club's linked 1815 campaign. This is a minor engagement, but a source of much historical recrimination on the French side. Why did Grouchy fail to stop the Prussians from joining Wellington at Waterloo? Let's find out!

Wavre Outcome

Picture
Our scenario ends exactly as the historical battle--a minor French tactical victory that fails to have any impact on the main action at Waterloo. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Prussians did manage to bloody Grouchy's nose quite badly. The French lost 6,000 men, while the Prussians lost 7,000 and 24 guns.

With three battles complete, we now head into the main event--the showdown at Waterloo. Thanks in large part to a crushing victory at Quatre Bras, the French are leading the allies by a wide margin in the campaign victory point totals...but will it be enough for Napoleon to extend his 100 days a bit longer? Or will Wellington hold the line long enough for Blucher to deliver the coup de grace yet again?
