At long last, the 1809 Danube Campaign draws to a close. The church spires of Landshut are in sight for both armies, but the Austrians are well positioned for either a defensive stand or an orderly withdraw back to the city.
"Let us meet them here," announces Archduke Charles on a cloudy, grey morning north of Landshut. Napoleon's Grande Armee is camped directly across from the Austrians, ready to give battle on the ground Charles selected several days beforehand. Was his battlefield well chosen? Is an over-confident Napoleon playing right into Austrian hands? The largest engagement of the campaign is about to erupt with terrible fury....
Time is working against Napoleon in his bid to complete the campaign by capturing both major Danube crossings. Will the Emperor attack in haste with piecemeal forces? Or might the Austrians view the long, snaking column of French troops as an invitation to make a forceful counter-attack?
With just a few days remaining in the campaign, the French have finally captured Ratisbon, one of their two objectives. But to replicate Napoleon's historical success, our French players would somehow need to also affect the capture of Landshut with only four days to go. The entire Austrian army stands in their way on the road to Landshut, setting the table for what should be the campaign's ultimate showdown. When and where will the epic battle happen?
