This scenario is the third battle of our club's World War I Centennial event, using Great War Spearhead II in 6mm. After two BEF actions, we shift south along the German axis of advance, to the Alsace border region. The French launched an operation in early August that captured the town of Mulhouse. Our scenario covers the German 39th Division attacking Cernay, to the northwest of Mulhouse. Can the French 41st Division maintain their position? |
AFTER ACTION REPORT
SCENARIO RESULTS: After about ten turns of play, the Germans opt to break off their offensive. They have sustained heavy losses advancing across so much open ground, and the French regiment entrenched in Cernay managed to pass a critical, late-game morale check that ensured the town would not fall easily. We have now played several scenarios where the attacker is forced to cross a river or canal at a chokepoint, effectively neutralizing the advantage of numbers. These are especially difficult scenarios for an attacker to win. In our three-game series so far, the German are still hunting for their first outright victory!
